Applications open for Hastings Youth Council

Applications to join the Hastings District Youth Council have opened, providing an opportunity for young people to have a voice in local government.

The Youth Council’s main role is to give a youth perspective on issues and promote and
encourage youth involvement in the planning and development of council services.

The Youth Council is open to young people aged between 15 and 21 years, who live, work or attend school within the Hastings district.

Current Youth Council chair, Chris Proctor says he had no idea what to expect when he first applied to be a part of the Youth Council.

“You measure a team by its people, and I have huge respect for the passion and drive of the rangatahi that make up the Youth Council team,” says Chris.

“We’ve made some core memories, from attending Festival for the Future in Wellington, to events in the community.

“We’ve grown as people in so many different ways – leadership, teamwork, and creating change in our community. I look back with pride on what has been an awesome few years.

“If you’re thinking of giving Youth Council a crack, go for it; you won’t regret it.”
