Michael Day has been appointed as interim chief executive of Kaipara District Council, following the departure of Jason Marris after three and half years at the helm.
Mr Day (pictured) is the Council’s current General Manager, Planning and Development and brings over 20 years of local government experience in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has spent the past five and a half years with Kaipara District Council, following 12 years at Northland Regional Council and earlier roles at Christchurch City Council and several UK councils.
Kaipara Mayor, Jonathan Larsen says the appointment of Mr Day into the interim role provides continuity and stability until a permanent chief executive has been appointed.
“Mr Day has already worked in a senior leadership role for council for some time now and has a strong understanding of Kaipara and Northland. He has considerable experience in local government and is well versed with legislation and requirements,” he said.
“It will be several months before a permanent chief executive starts in the role. Mr Day has the relevant skills and experience to ensure the seamless continuity of service delivery for Kaipara residents until a permanent appointment is made.”
