Grey District Council recently presented an award to local resident, Ryan Mackenzie, recognising his outstanding voluntary work in the Ahaura community.
Mayor Tania Gibson
Ryan is a member of the Community Trust in Ahaura. He manages the day-to-day running of the Ahaura campground and public toilets as well as looking after the Ahaura Hall.
He also looks after the local squash courts and arranges repairs, organises and runs the local school disco and decorates the hall for school prize-givings and special events and runs the local clubs every Tuesday night at the hall, Council said in a statement.
At Christmas, Ryan set up and organised the campground for 100 scouts and helped cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for the six nights they were there.
Ryan also set up a display in the hall to mark the 100-year anniversary of the Ahaura Memorial Hall and organised the first ANZAC service this year for the Ahaura community.
“Thank you from Grey District Council and the community for all of the work that you do.”
“Congratulations on receiving this well-earned award,” Council said.
