Chris Hipkins will today be sworn in as New Zealand Prime Minister, following the resignation of Jacinda Ardern last week.
Mr Hipkins and deputy PM, Carmel Sepuloni, were due to arrive at Government House at around 11.30am for the swearing-in ceremony.
The new PM is then expected to convene his first meeting of Cabinet.
At a Rātana near Whanganui yesterday afternoon (pictured), Mr Hipkins said he and Ms Ardern had spoken at length about his new role during the two-hour trip to Rātana Pa.
“Any two people who have known each other for a long time… there’s lots of different things to reflect on,” he told media yesterday.
“We’ve talked about our experiences here at Rātana and over the years, we’ve both been here roughly, probably the same number of times and so we’re able to reflect on that.”
He said Ms Ardern had also offered him “a few words of advice” which he declined to share with reporters.
