Arnott Heights resident honoured by Grey council

Grey District Council has bestowed an Award of Appreciation on a very special member of the Arnott Heights community.

The Council says Leigh Sullivan has put hours of his own time and work into his community for a range of projects, with Grey District Mayor, Tania Gibson, describing his service and dedication to his community as “outstanding”.

“Leigh led the Arnott Heights playground upgrade over many years, creating a very special place for the children and families of community. This was one of the first community meetings I went to as a new Mayor and since then, Leigh and his wife Linda have rallied to ensure this project has come to life,” said Mayor Gibson.

“His ability to organise, corral, pull in the troops and get things done is unmatched. His tireless dedication to his community was hugely effective in keeping everyone informed during the recent slip that isolated the neighbourhood for a period of time.

“Leigh was an integral go-between for Council and contractor staff and the community, ensuring everyone was informed, updated and looked after – particularly the more vulnerable who don’t have access to social media.”

Mr Sullivan said the award came as a very pleasant surprise.

“I was moon shocked. I don’t do it to expect anything back,” he said. “I get the action done and the team puts it together.”

Mayor Gibson said Mr Sullivan, the honorary ‘Mayor of Arnott Heights’ helped organise community events and even stepped forward to front the cameras for television interviews.

“Leigh’s service to his community is outstanding and we, as a Council, really wanted to acknowledge that and thank Leigh and his wife Linda for all they have done for us and their community. I’d also like to thank all the volunteers who have participated in the working bees and offered their own muscle and minds to the projects.”

“I’m sure Leigh has lots of energy and plans for more projects, and I look forward to continuing to work with him for many years to come,” said Mayor Gibson.
