Ashburton honours Queen with London trees

Ashburton District Council will plant seven commemorative trees in the district’s domains this month to mark the platinum jubilee year of Queen Elizabeth II.

Mayor Neil Brown will plant London plane trees (Plantanus acerifolia) at seven domains on Monday 27 June, Council said in a statement this week.

The deciduous tree species has a long life, grows up to 35 metres high and should last several hundred years, it said.

Each tree will have a commemorative bronze plaque with details of the occasion.
