Nominations received so far for candidates standing in Auckland local elections are up from this time last elections.
As of Friday 25 July – week three of nominations opening, 85 nominations were received, compared to 66 submitted in the third week of nominations in 2022.
With nominations to close on Friday 1 August at midday, these are the final days for Aucklanders to register as candidates to represent their community.
Week on week results:

As at Wednesday 30 July, 65% of the 258 nominations received so far were submitted online and 35% remaining submitted on paper.
General Manager Governance and Engagement, Lou-Ann Ballantyne said she was delighted with the progress.
“The number of nominations received so far is a really good sign. We are rapt to see candidates getting in early and there is healthy competition among some wards and local board areas already,” she says.
“Should this momentum continue and more Aucklanders heed the call to stand, potentially we could exceed 2022’s 466 candidates.
“These are Aucklanders stepping up and committing to voters in a bid to help communities be heard and make Tāmaki Makaurau an even better place to live, work and play in. It’s a big ask so we’re really grateful so many are putting their hand up,” says Ms Ballantyne.
“The more candidates who stand for election, the greater the opportunity to reflect Auckland’s rich diversity – ensuring our communities see themselves represented in those seeking to lead.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the full list of candidates after nominations close on Friday 1 August so that voters can get an early start on finding out who they might vote for,” she says.
A preliminary list of candidates will be announced on the evening of Friday 1 August and will remain subject to the Electoral Officer’s review and approval.
With an expected surge of nominations at closing time, eligible nominees who aren’t validated by close of business on the Friday will appear on the final list of candidates to be published on Monday 4 August, along with candidate contact details at: voteauckland.co.nz/candidates.
