Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking feedback and insights from the community to help shape the future of Ngongotahā village.
The Council says consultation with locals and the wider Rotorua community will help develop a framework for the future development of the village.
The Rotorua Future Development Strategy (FDS), which was adopted at the end of 2023, identified Ngongotahā as an area with future residential growth potential.
Feedback received from residents and iwi in this area through FDS consultation indicated they wanted to see a wider plan for the village. They want improved housing options, better use of industrial land and protection of the taiao/environment, as well as support for relocating industrial activities away from the village centre and developing land at the southern end along SH36, near the state highway 5/36 roundabout, Council said in a statement.
Council’s Housing and Development team have started community consultations to find out what Ngongotahā residents and ratepayers in surrounding areas like Hamurana and the wider Rotorua district, want for future development in the village.
Members of the public can visit the council’s Participate | Whakapuakina mai engagement platform to submit their feedback.
There is also some community engagement happening in Ngongotahā with a community drop-in session today where a wide range of feedback was received from members of the local community.
Additional sessions may be added and the Ngongotahā Development Framework is expected to be ready later this year to inform future Council decision making in response to the forecast growth in the area.
