A 37-year veteran of New Zealand’s local government sector has received this year’s Distinguished Management Award at the 2023 LGFA Taituarā Excellence Awards.
Recipient Barbara McKerrow (pictured, centre) was nominated by both Wellington City Council and New Plymouth District Council in recognition of her long service in local government.
Ms McKerrow has held a range of executive management roles as well as being Chief Executive for New Plymouth between 2008 and 2017 and Chief Executive of Wellington City since 2020.
In a statement, Taituarā said Ms McKerrow was known for her strategic thinking while navigating complex environments. She is also a keen collaborator and is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the Wellington School of Business and Government.
She has also been a staunch supporter of Taituarā, having served as President for three years, co-chaired the central and local government chief executive forum and represented Taituarā overseas at the ICMA.
