Defence, Police contingent depart for Honiara

A New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) contingent departed for Solomon Islands today as part of Operation Solomon Islands Assistance.

A Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing B757 and a C-130 Hercules transported New Zealand Army personnel, NZ Police personnel, vehicles and other equipment from RNZAF Base Ohakea and RNZAF Base Auckland this morning.

Defence Minister, Peeni Henare said the NZDF personnel would support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in maintaining stability, engaging with communities and providing public reassurance.

All New Zealand personnel deploying to Solomon Islands are required to be double vaccinated, have had a negative COVID-19 test before departure and adhere to Solomon Islands COVID-19 testing protocols. They will complete managed isolation on their return, the Prime Minister confirmed.
