Dunedin mourns long-serving councillor

Mayor of Dunedin, Aaron Hawkins, today acknowledged the passing of long-serving former Dunedin City Councillor, Paul Hudson, 73, who passed away at the weekend after suffering a stroke.

Mr Hudson served as a councillor and deputy Mayor at Port Chalmers Borough Council, and later – following amalgamation in 1989 – was a member of the Dunedin City Council until 2013, serving as Dunedin City Councillor, committee chair and Deputy Mayor.

He also served as a board member and chairman of Dunedin City Holdings Limited and its
companies.

Mr Hawkins says Mr Hudson’s passing is a loss for his loved ones and colleagues, as well as the wider city, but he leaves behind a legacy of public service that can be measured in decades.

“On behalf of the Dunedin City Council I want to acknowledge his contribution over many years, and send our aroha and sympathies to his whānau and friends,” he said.

Mr Hudson was made a Member of the Order of New Zealand in 2014 for services to business and the community.
