Taharoa Domain campgrounds may be under new management this summer after Kaipara District Council Elected Members agreed to seek Expressions of Interest for its operation.
Council completed a camping strategy last year that recommended council outsource operation of their camp grounds.
“The campgrounds are popular throughout the region and beyond, with many families holidaying there for generations. Due to its high occupancy, the Taharoa Domain campgrounds, at Kai Iwi Lakes return a profit to Council, which is spent across the district. However, campgrounds do not sit easily within council operations camp grounds and the operation is more suited to a private business,” Council said in a statement.
Following the Council decision, staff will create the Registrations for Expression of Interest documentation that will be available through the GETS site, Council stated.
