Final results for the Dunedin City Council election have been declared, with Sophie Barker confirmed as Mayor-elect with 16,874 votes – 898 votes ahead of second placed candidate, Andrew Simms.
There are no changes to the 14 Councillors elected, but the order of their placings has changed in some cases, DCC Deputy Electoral Officer Robyn Dillon says.
“I want to thank everyone – candidates and residents alike – for their patience and understanding during the counting process,” said Ms Dillon.
“Dunedin’s traditional last-minute rush meant our staff and our contractor had a lot of work still to do once the voting period closed on Saturday, but we have taken the time needed to ensure the integrity of the counting and the result.”
