Former NZ Police commissioner to lead Victoria Police

Former New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush is reportedly set to lead Australia’s Victoria Police force.

The Victorian Government is expected to announce Mr Bush’s formal appointment to the position this morning.

Former Victorian Police Commissioner Shane Patton departed the top job earlier this year, just two days after a no-confidence vote from the force’s approximately 18,000 members.

“Given the current circumstances surrounding my position, I have decided to step away from the role effective immediately”, Mr Patton said at the time.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision, however I think it is the right one to allow fresh leadership in the role.”

Rick Nugent has been acting in the organisation’s top job since February. In April, he declared he would not apply for the ongoing position.

Mr Bush is expected to start in the new job in the coming weeks.
