Spring is here, and the countdown on is on for the annual Hastings Blossom Fest and Parade that will bring the city centre alive this coming weekend.
A tradition that dates back to 1950, the parade will again be the centrepiece of the celebrations on Saturday, September 21, running from 10am to 4pm, with the parade kicking off at 1pm.
Hastings Blossom Festival is a collaborative event organised by Arts Inc Heretaunga, Hastings District Council and Hastings City Business Association with generous support from charitable trusts and sponsors.
This year’s parade theme is ‘Regeneration: Spring Back Hastings’ – reflecting the region’s spirit of recovery and rebuilding. All the diversity of Hastings will be on display at the parade, creating another highly colourful, exciting and fun spectacle for the community to enjoy.
While it’s the main attraction, the parade is just one of many activities happening throughout the day. There are five entertainment zones; Blossom Alley (Heretaunga Street East between Warren St and Karamu Rd), Blossom Alley East (Heretaunga Street East between Warren Street and Hastings Street) Landmarks Square, CBD Mall and Albert Square. All entertainment is free, and runs from 10am until 4pm.
Hastings Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst said excitement was building for the iconic Hastings event.
“This is the perfect opportunity to join together with friends and whānau and celebrate Spring and our district’s fruit growing sector as well as our diverse, multicultural community,” she said.
