Ten candidates have been put forward to contest the two vacant seats in Hastings District Council’s upcoming by-elections.
Nominations closed on Thursday, March 28, with seven nominations received for the
Heretaunga General Ward and three for the Takitimu Māori Ward.
The by-elections were triggered by the resignation of councillor Ann Redstone in the Heretaunga ward and councillor Renata Nepe in the Takitimu ward.
The Heretaunga ward candidates are: Shona Brewer, Tāwhana Chadwick, Geoff Downer,
Brendan Grant, Sarah Greening-Smith, Hana Montaperto-Hendry and Melanie Lorraine Petrowski.
The Takitumu Māori ward candidates are: Michael Ngahuka, Heather Te Au-Skipworth and Jason Whaitiri.
Postal voting will begin on May 2, when residents in these wards will start receiving voting papers in the mail.
Electors in these ward areas who are not listed on the final electoral roll for these by-elections can enrol or amend their electoral roll enrolment details on or before 5pm, Thursday May 1, 2024.
This can be done online at www.vote.nz, or a form can be requested by texting name and
address to 3676, calling 0800 3676 56 or emailing enquiries@elections.govt.nz.
Ratepayers who reside outside of the wards and who are not listed on the final electoral roll can enrol on or before 5pm, Thursday May 1, 2024 by completing and returning a ratepayer enrolment form, available from the Hastings District Council office or website.
Special voting facilities for the by-elections will be situated at the Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor, Hastings District Council Building, 207 Lyndon Road East, Hastings during normal office hours from Thursday May 2 until Thursday May 23, 2024 ,and between 8am and 12 noon on Friday, May 24, 2024. Voting closes at 12 noon on Friday May 24, 2024.
