Historic appointment for NZ’s longest serving MP

New Zealand’s longest continuously serving Member of Parliament, Gerry Brownlee, was confirmed as the 32nd Speaker of the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kiro.

Mr Brownlee was elected to Parliament in 1996. He will chair the first Parliamentary debate of the 54th Parliament tomorrow.
