Kaipara District Council has adopted a new vision for the decade ahead which includes better roads, thriving communities and a strong local economy at the heart of its plan.
At its September meeting, elected members adopted the vision and community outcomes that will guide the development of the Long Term Plan 2027–2037.
The new vision, ‘Kaipara – grow and thrive here’, sets the direction for planning, decision-making and investment over the next 10 years.
Mayor, Jonathan Larsen said the vision and outcomes reflect the aspirations of the council and its communities across the district and provide a foundation for the Long Term Plan.
“Kaipara has so much to offer, and we want more people to discover that. Our goal is to attract new investment, support local business and welcome new residents who want to be part of our district,” he said.
“We want Kaipara to be a vibrant place where business and communities thrive and where people come together for great events, activities and experiences. There’s enormous potential for our towns and communities to grow and flourish.”
The community outcomes focus on five key areas:
- Prosperous growing economy.
- Affordable living.
- Better roading.
- Vibrant communities.
- Healthy environment.
The updated outcomes include a stronger focus on promoting Kaipara as a place to live, work and invest; making sure infrastructure keeps pace with growth; improving the efficiency of planning and consenting processes; maintaining and improving roads and footpaths; supporting community-led activities; and increasing resilience to flooding and severe weather.
“Roading remains a key priority,” Mayor Larsen says.
“We’re focused on making steady improvements that support safe, reliable travel for our residents, businesses and visitors.”
The vision and community outcomes will now be incorporated into the Long Term Plan 2027–2037, which will be consulted on with the community next year as part of the formal Long Term Plan process.
