KiwiRail director to depart seven months into 3-year contract

KiwiRail has announced the departure of Director, Scott O’Donnell, just seven months into his three-year contract.

In a brief statement, KiwiRail Chair, Suzanne Tindal said Mr O’Donnell (pictured) had decided to depart the KiwiRail Board “as a new venture will require him to spend more time in Australia”.

“Mr O’Donnell will be thanked for his service at our Board meeting on 24 March, which will be his last day as a KiwiRail director,” Ms Tindal says.

“Mr O’Donnell was the managing director of HW Richardson Group, a large-scale transport, concrete, quarrying, environmental business based in Southland, and we appreciated his commercial focus for KiwiRail’s non-freight operations in particular.

“We wish Mr O’Donnell well for his future,” her statement ended.

The HW Richardson Group owns 46 companies, employing around 2,000 people across six sectors including road freight.

At the time of his appointment in July last year, Minister for Rail Winston Peters said Mr O’Donnell’s appointment would help to bolster the board’s freight expertise.
