Massey Road to close for seawall repairs

Wellington City Council has announced the closure of Massey Road between Shelly Bay and Scorching Bay, at the northern end of Te Motu Kairangi Miramar Peninsula, from early June till October to allow for the repair of three sections of seawall.

The Council said the repair works will help to maintain the support of the roadway above the seawall.

The seawall repair sites are:
• Mahanga Bay
• Two in Kau Bay, about 200 metres south of the Point Halswell lighthouse.

The work involves the demolition and removal of the existing walls, earthworks, installation of a new concrete mass block wall, road reinstatement, installation of a new safety barrier, drainage improvements and reinstatement of habitats.

The road closure begins at Point Halswell and ends at Herbies Beach (pullover area), north of Scorching Bay.

To access the eastern bays, traffic will be redirected through Miramar and over to Karaka Bay via Awa Road. Alternatively motorists can access these areas through Seatoun tunnel or from Breaker Bay.
