Health Minister, Simeon Brown, has welcomed the ratification of a new collective agreement for Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs) employed by Health New Zealand, following a vote by members of the Association of Professional and Executive Employees (APEX).
The Minister said approximately 1,000 MITs nationwide will benefit from the new agreement.
The agreement provides around 1,000 MITs with a 2.5% pay increase in July and a further 2% increase in July 2027. It also includes enhancements that will support a transition to seven-day service provision, increasing Health New Zealand’s scanning capacity so patients can be diagnosed and treated sooner.
“These highly skilled professionals carry out X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and other diagnostic and interventional imaging that clinicians rely on to diagnose and treat patients,” Mr Brown says.
“They work across the hospital system, from emergency departments and inpatient wards to outpatient clinics and operating theatres, and are critical to the delivery of timely, quality healthcare.”
This ratification follows the recent approval of collective agreements for APEX pharmacy members, APEX psychologists, PSA Allied Public Health, Scientific and Technical members, APEX dietitians, PSA Public and Mental Health Nurses, STONZ Resident Medical Officers, ASMS Senior Medical Officers, NZNO nurses, midwives, and healthcare assistants, and NSNZ nurses.
“I want to acknowledge APEX and Health New Zealand for their constructive engagement in reaching this agreement, which provides certainty for MITs and helps ensure New Zealanders continue to receive the care they need,” said Mr Brown.
