NZ Police has officially opened its new public front counter at the Auckland Central Police Base on Federal Street.
The new public counter replaces the previous counters at College Hill.
“This has been something the community have been keen to see happen, and Police have been working hard at increasing our presence in recent years,” said Acting Police Deputy Commissioner: Northern Region, Jill Rogers.
“It’s great to be back, and soon additional staff will join the Beat Team that are already based here
“The Police front door is now open a lot closer to central Auckland residents and visitors.”
The public counter was officially opened by A/Deputy Commissioner Rogers and Minister of Police, Mark Mitchell.
It’s the first stage of an expanded presence at 210 Federal Street after it was announced late last year that Police will take on full occupancy of the address.
“It’s fantastic to be able to open our doors with a public facing presence back in the heart of central Auckland once again,” said A/Deputy Commissioner Rogers.

Construction is ongoing at the site, with fit out work being completed on other floors in the building.
Auckland City District Headquarters will remain based at its current location on College Hill.
The base will be home to Auckland’s 51 inner city beat officers, who provide 24/7 policing coverage.
“Not only is their presence reassuring for public safety, the data also shows a reduction in crime types where the beat team operates,” said Minister Mitchell.
“In the last year, victimisations are down 17%, robbery has dropped 25%, and theft is down by 21%.
“These results are encouraging, and reflect the hard work of our police officers, alongside stakeholders including Auckland Council, the retail community including Heart of the City, business associations, and community volunteers.
“The presence of a central police base will continue to build on this work, by enabling Police to respond faster to crime in the CBD.
“There is no doubt this police base will have an important role to play in the community now and into the future,” he said.
