Chief Executive appointed to Charter School Agency

Deputy Public Service Commissioner, Heather Baggott, has announced the appointment of Sean Teddy as Chief Executive of the Charter School Agency.

The Agency implements and enables the Government’s charter schools’ policy and priorities, including growing the number of schools and students.

Mr Teddy (pictured) is currently Deputy Secretary, Operations and Integration at the Ministry of Education, where he has led significant programmes including implementing the Government’s targets to increase student attendance.

Ms Baggott said Mr Teddy brings deep education sector experience and a strong track record of delivering outcomes aligned with ministerial priorities.

“Mr Teddy is a seasoned public service leader with a clear understanding of the charter school model and demonstrable commitment to improving education outcomes in New Zealand,” she said.

“He knows how to lead through complexity and build trusting relationships. I am confident he will provide the Charter School Agency with the leadership it needs to deliver on the Government’s priorities.”

Mr Teddy has been appointed for five years from 1 December 2025.
