New Deputy Mayor for Wairoa

Denise Eaglesome-Karekare is Wairoa’s new Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Eaglesome-Karekare (pictured) was appointed to the position last week by Mayor Craig Little.

She was the highest polling councillor for the General Ward and has held the Deputy Mayor position previously.

Returning for her seventh term as an elected member, Cr Eaglesome-Karekare said she was thrilled with the appointment and the responsibility that comes with the role.

“Being elected to Council is a privilege and I am very grateful to the community who have demonstrated their faith in me. I love Wairoa and I will continue to work as hard as I can to get the best results for our district.”

“I am honoured to have been selected as the Deputy Mayor and will support Mayor Little in any way I can.

“While we have all acknowledged these are challenging times, we are also entering an exciting period for Wairoa. We have a growing population and initiatives across areas like health, housing, education, employment and training which will build further foundations to enable our whānau to thrive,” she said.

Mayor Craig Little said he was looking forward to working with elected members to strongly position Wairoa for the future.
