Waitaria Bay has a new jetty, after the structure in Kenepuru Sound in Marlborough was damaged by a landslide in August 2022.
Temporary repairs were made by Marlborough District Council at the time, but a routine inspection last year found that some structural components had deteriorated significantly. As a result, the jetty was closed by the Council.
Marlborough Roads Transport Recovery Manager, Steve Murrin said the new structure was now finished with the only work to be done the completion of a shelter shed on land.

Marlborough Sounds Ward Councillor, Barbara Faulls said having the jetty back up and running had been a “wonderful boost for the community”.
“This jetty is a vital lifeline for not only the school families, but for the wider community who rely on it to bring in groceries, to access water taxis or private boats in times of need, and to allow residents to go about their normal day to day lives,” she said.
Another boost for the local community was the completion of a driveway to the Waitaria Bay hall carried out by Price Contractors.
“Locals are delighted with the user-friendly result,” Cr Faulls said.
