Ngaaruawaahia has celebrated the official opening of Festival Way and the newly constructed roundabout at the intersection of Great South Road, Regent Street, and Old Taupiri Road.
While both projects have been open to traffic for some time, the weekend’s event marked their formal completion and celebrated their vital role in unlocking the town’s potential for future housing and development.
Festival Way is a brand-new road built to support significant residential growth in Ngaaruawaahia north. The project also includes upgraded stormwater infrastructure and water-sensitive design features to reduce flooding and enhance long-term environmental resilience.
The new roundabout at the town’s northern entrance improves traffic flow and safety while playing a critical role in connecting key routes to support the town’s future development.
Both projects were jointly funded by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, local developers, and Waikato District Council, reflecting a shared commitment to smart, future-focused infrastructure investment.
Waikato District Mayor, Jacqui Church says the projects are a tangible example of strategic planning and partnership in action.
“We are proud to officially open Festival Way and the new roundabout – key infrastructure that enables growth, enhances safety, and strengthens our connection to the wider district,” says Mayor Church.
“As Ngaaruawaahia grows, it is essential that we invest in infrastructure that not only supports new housing but creates connected, resilient and sustainable communities. This is a great example of collaboration delivering long-term value for our people.”
Construction of Festival Way began in November 2023, with the roundabout following in February 2025.
Waikato District Council thanked the Ngaaruawaahia community for its patience and support throughout the construction period.
