Auckland Council has confirmed nominations are now open for candidates in a new by-election for the Franklin Local Board, following the resignation of founding local board member, Malcolm Bell (pictured).
There is one seat to be filled in the Wairoa subdivision, with nominations open until midday, Tuesday 31 March.
To be nominated, candidates must be New Zealand citizens, 18 years of age or over and on the Parliamentary electoral roll. Their nomination form needs to have signatures from two electors enrolled in the Wairoa subdivision area.

Tuesday 31 March 2026, midday: nominations close.
Nomination forms must be received no later than midday Tuesday 31 March 2026 with the Electoral Officer at Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland or at select libraries.
The list of candidates will be announced as soon as practicable after the close of nominations on VoteAuckland. Candidate profiles will be available closer to voting opening so electors can learn more about candidates and their policies.
Monday 11 May 2026: Voting opens.
Wednesday 10 June 2026, midday: Voting closes.
