Northland council appoints new biosecurity GM

Northland Regional Council has formally welcomed Kane McElrea as its new Group Manager Biosecurity.

Mr McElrea (pictured) returns to the organisation with strong biosecurity experience, leadership capability, and a clear commitment to protecting Northland’s unique environment, the Council said in a statement.

“His appointment comes at an important time for regional biosecurity, with major programmes continuing across pest plants, marine pests, freshwater biosecurity, and animal pests,” Council stated.

The pōwhiri brought together councillors, kaimahi, partners, whānau and friends, and also acknowledged outgoing Group Manager Don McKenzie’s 21 years of leadership. Mr McKenzie will continue supporting the mahi as Principal Advisor Biosecurity.
