Police have acknowledged a 14 year sentence handed down to 35-year-old man, Scott James Southwood, following his conviction for rape and assault charges.
In June, Southwood (pictured) pleaded guilty to sexual violation by rape, sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, failing to stop, and assault with a weapon.
“We want to acknowledge the bravery and strength the victim has shown in speaking up and navigating this process. While today’s outcome holds the offender to account, we know it cannot undo the harm the victim has endured,” said Detective Mathew Wood.
“We also acknowledge the commitment and professionalism of the investigation team, the Crown prosecutors, and specialist support staff who worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome.”
While this matter has now concluded in court, Police are encouraging any other victims of sexual assault to come forward.
“Police has staff dedicated to investigating these cases, and we provide a space to report offending in confidence. We will listen, and we will take all reports seriously,” said Det Wood.
“Due to suppression orders in place, Police are unable to provide further details in relation to the matter.”
