Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) has announced it will offer pre-booked event shuttles to help eventgoers get to the new One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha, which is set to open in April next year.
The Council said the shuttles will be a managed service that eventgoers can book online prior to the event, taking them from six different pick-up areas within Christchurch, to Latimer Square, just a short walk away from the stadium.
“We’re excited to offer this direct and efficient service to eventgoers. The shuttle option provides people with a guaranteed ride to and from the stadium from within Christchurch, and the nature of it means we can scale the number of shuttles up and down depending on demand ahead of events,” said Council’s public transport general manager, Stewart Gibbon.
Eventgoers are encouraged to consider all options when picking their transport for events at the stadium.
“People can use the existing Metro bus network to travel to the bus interchange, which is a short walk to the stadium. Cycling, scootering, walking and carpooling are all great sustainable options for getting to the stadium as well,” Mr Gibbon said.
“We know some people might be interested in whether integrated ticketing will be available for events (public transport fares included in ticket prices). If an event promoter is willing to fund an integrated ticketing arrangement, then we will engage with them about that, but it’s not something we can fund as a Council.
“The central location of the stadium gives us an advantage in comparison to other regions in that it is served by almost all of our existing Metro network. The downside is that we can’t simply increase capacity on our network as funding and resourcing doesn’t exist for this,” he said.
More details on the pre-booked event shuttles, including ticket prices, how to book them, and where the pick-up locations are, will be available in March 2026, the Council said.
