Princess Anne to rededicate Christchurch war memorial

Christchurch will today welcome Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, Princess Anne as she arrives in the city to take part in a ceremony to rededicate the Citizens’ War Memorial in Cathedral Square.

Princess Anne will be accompanied by her husband Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence during the half hour ceremony which begins at midday.

The Bishop of Te Wai Ponamu will conduct a blessing during the ceremony and the Bishop of Christchurch will say the closing prayer, Christchurch City Council confirmed.

RSA National President Sir Wayne (Buck) Shelford will also attend, with representatives from the Royal NZ Navy Volunteer Reserve and 2/4 Battalion RNZIR.

Traffic will be closed on the north side of the Square, so access will be from Worcester Boulevard to the west and Colombo Street from the north. The Tram will not be running, Council has advised.
