Rotary honour for Hastings City Assist team

Hastings District Council’s City Assist team has been recognised by Stortford Lodge Rotary at their annual Pride of Workmanship Awards.

The awards shine a light on individuals and teams who consistently go above and beyond in their work or volunteer roles, strengthening both workplace culture and community spirit.

For many years now, the Hastings City Assist team has walked the streets of Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North, helping make Heretaunga Hastings a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

Club president, Stuart Knauf said the awards were a reminder that excellence is not just about skill, but also about attitude and commitment.

“We are proud to celebrate those who bring pride to their work every day,” said Mr Knauf.

Hastings Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst has presented the awards since their inception, and congratulated all this year’s recipients, including the City Assist team.

“For the past 12 years in Hastings and Havelock North and the past nine years in Flaxmere they have been a visible and reassuring presence in our urban centres, supporting business owners, retailers, and individuals address antisocial behaviour – equipped with Council and Police radio channels to ensure direct communication with key services,” she said.

“Their role blends community liaison, welfare support, and public reassurance, often intervening before issues escalate and connecting people with the help they need.

“The City Assist team consistently demonstrates integrity, commitment, and care in every interaction, often going ‘outside the square’ to support those in need, and we are very proud to have them recognised in this way.”
