Sandbags at the ready for Dunedin downpour

Dunedin City Council has set up sandbagging stations as a precautionary measure with heavy rain forecast in the area.

“The forecast is variable so the DCC is preparing for the possibility of surface flooding,” Council said in a statement.

“Residents concerned about flooding or who have had issues before can collect sandbags from the sites below from 3pm today.”

The locations are the Dunedin Ice Stadium Carpark, Victoria Road, St Kilda and the Memorial Park car park, Mosgiel.

“In most circumstances people will need to fill their own bags. Volunteers will also be on site to help. Anyone who would like to volunteer is welcome,” Council said.

“Older people and those with mobility issues who are unable to pick up their own bags can call the DCC on 03 477 4000 and we will try to arrange delivery.

“Please bring a shovel with you to fill the bags, although volunteers will be at the sites to help with filing and loading.”
