Start date announced for Aranui bus trial

Environment Canterbury Regional Council has confirmed Aranui’s new 12-month trial bus service, Route 110 New Brighton/The Palms via Aranui, will start on 31 August.

The service will run between New Brighton and The Palms Shopping Centre via Aranui each hour. The Palms Shopping Centre was chosen as the destination, following strong community feedback

Key stops for the new trial service include: Oram Avenue in New Brighton, Carisbrooke Playground, Aranui Wainoni Community Centre, Pak’nSave on Breezes Road, Burwood Park and The Palms Shopping Centre.

Public Transport Core Service Co-Lead Councillor, Ashley Campbell said she’s excited for the trial bus route to begin serving the community.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the benefit this new bus service brings. For those who live in the East, please make the most of this service. How well it’s used during the trial is one of the key measures we’ll use to decide the long-term future of the service,” Cr Campbell said.

“We’ll have Metro ambassadors out and about over the first week of the trial, so if you’re newer to bussing, or haven’t done so in a while, please ask them for assistance. They’re there to help.”

Customers can pay their fares for this service via debit or credit card, Metrocard or cash. You can get a Metrocard from the New Brighton Library, which would be the closest pick-up spot for Eastern residents, or from one of the other Metro agents.

If you have any questions about the new service or how to use it, you can contact the Metro team on 03 366 88 55 or email metro@ecan.govt.nz

Metro fares are $3, or less if you’re eligible for a concession. You can check if you’re eligible and how to apply here
