Owners of red and yellow stickered properties damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle in Hastings district will receive one-off support payments through the Hastings Mayoral Relief Fund in coming weeks, Hastings District Council has announced.
The Hastings, Wairoa, Central Hawke’s Bay and Napier mayoral funds were this week bolstered by a bulk payment of $2.5m across all councils by the Hawke’s Bay Disaster Relief Trust.
Hastings’ share will be allocated to owners of red and yellow stickered properties, who will receive $2,000 each, said Hastings Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst.
“We are extremely grateful to receive this funding from the Hawke’s Bay Disaster Relief Fund.”
“Thanks to generous donations from the public to the disaster relief fund we are able to reach out to our people whose properties have been directly impacted, and offer some support as they continue to deal with the enormous challenges in front of them,” she said.
The Hastings Mayoral Relief Fund was initially established through donations and to date about $158,000, had been distributed to those in need.
This fund is now substantially allocated, and recipients have included those who have been helping people clean up their properties, groups providing hot meals, and groups involved in mental health support initiatives, the Mayor said.
She said the payments to property owners will be made once Council has all relevant property information, the final details of which are currently being gathered.
