Strong wind watch lifted for Ruapehu

Ruapehu Civil Defence Controller, Clive Manley says the district experienced a quiet night, with the worst of the predicted weather failing to eventuate.

“We’re pleased to report only a few minor issues overnight, including some downed trees and small slips which were cleared promptly.”

“There have been no reports of flooding,” said Mr Manley.

The strong wind watch for southern Ruapehu has now been lifted, and the heavy rain watch over northern Ruapehu expired at 4am today.

Mr Manley said civil defence teams and contractors were “very happy to have had a quiet night” and thanked everyone who remained on standby throughout the event.

“As people get out and about today, we ask that they continue to take care on the roads,” he said.

Our local roading network is still fragile from the recent weather events and repairs are ongoing from the earlier weather events.

“If you’re planning longer distance travel, please check the NZTA Journey Planner before leaving.”
