Grandstand seats, corporate suites and the players’ tunnel from the Christchurch’s temporary stadium are amongst the items up for grabs as the site’s decommissioning process ramps up.
Christchurch City Council is inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from groups interested in purchasing assets from the temporary stadium on Jack Hinton Drive in Addington.
“We have started decommissioning the temporary stadium and have a range of items available, from seating and portacoms through to concrete blocks and drinking fountains,” says Council Head of Recreation, Sport and Events, Nigel Cox.
“Any revenue from the asset sales will be used to offset the cost of decommissioning the facility.”
The temporary stadium was built following the 2011 earthquakes and served the community until earlier this year when One NZ Stadium at Te Kaha opened in the central city in April. It was home to the Crusaders and Canterbury Rugby and in recent years it hosted Elton John, Snoop Dogg, SIX60, and the Foo Fighters.
Last week it was announced that Minister of RMA Reform Chris Bishop has launched an investigation into the planning rules at for the temporary stadium site. The land is currently zoned Open Space Metropolitan Facilities, which restricts future use of the site.
The Council says community consultation will take place as part of any future rezoning process.
EOIs will be received from 4pm on Thursday 15 October until 4pm on Thursday 12 November. Questions can be submitted to temporarystadiumeoi@ccc.govt.nz.
