Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, has released a statement following news of the shock death of Green MP, Efeso Collins today.
“I am truly shocked and saddened at the news of Efeso Collins’ sudden death,” Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said.
“Efeso was a good man, always friendly and kind, and a true champion and advocate for his Samoan and South Auckland communities.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to his family, his community and colleagues.”
Mr Collins died after collapsing while taking part in the ChildFund Water Run to raise funds to support local communities in the Pacific in central Auckland this morning.
The 49-year-old is survived by his wife, Fia, and two young daughters (all pictured).
In a statement, Green Party leaders, James Shaw and Marama Davidson said they were “absolutely devastated” by the MP’s passing.
“A beautiful family has lost a dedicated father, husband, and community leader,” they said.
“Aotearoa and the Green Party have lost one of the kindest, most dedicated champions of fairness and equality.”
The former Auckland Councillor was elected to Parliament as a Green Party MP in 2023.
