Vehicles stolen from West Coast Regional Council

The offices of the West Coast Regional Council have been closed until at least Wednesday following a break-in and the theft of two vehicles over the weekend.

In a statement, Council said one of the vehicles had since been recovered nearby.

The other was unfortunately found burnt out in Westport, it said.

“We are extremely disappointed with the events of the weekend and are working closely with police so they can obtain the evidence they need from the building. Our security systems were activated and we have documented coverage of the episodes,” said Council CEO, Heather Mabin.

She said that while the office was closed, it would be business as usual for Council with staff working remotely.

Staff can be contacted via their usual contacts, or through the main number 0508 800 118 or info@wcrc.govt.nz.

“Our staff have had considerable practice with working remotely through the lockdowns experienced over 2020 and 2021,” said Ms Mabin.

“Please continue to contact us as you need to.”
