Voting opens for Ōtara-Papatoetoe local board

Voting has opened for the Ōtara-Papatoetoe (Ōtara Subdivision) Local Board by-election, with voting documents set to arrive into the letterboxes of the area’s 23,000 enrolled electors from 6 June.

Voting will close at 12 noon Wednesday 28 June 2023.

Four candidates have put their hands up to fill the vacant seat on the board:

  • HANN, Angela
  • JACKSON, Albert (Ōtara First)       
  • KAISARA, Lorenzo (NZ Labour Party)
  • TAWHI-MARSTERS, Nevaeh (ALL 444 YOUTH)

Auckland Council’s Manager Governance Services, Rose Leonard says voters have plenty of choice when they pick a person to fill this vacancy on Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board.

“If you are not sure who to pick, read what the candidates say they believe is important in the booklet that comes with your voting papers, or come along and meet them at the meet the candidate events,” she said.

“You can find information about these events on Vote Auckland.”

Why should I vote?

Local government, also known as the council, takes care of services and facilities that affect your daily life in Tāmaki Makaurau. By voting, you have a say in who is elected to represent you and shape decisions that affect the community, the city and the region.

Completed votes can simply be returned by post using the reply-paid envelope provided or dropped in one of the vote boxes during the voting period at:

  • Manukau Service Centre, Kotuku House 4 Osterley Way, Manukau City Centre
  • Ōtara Library, 46 Fair Mall, Ōtara
  • Manukau Train Station, Manukau City Centre
  • Te Puke ō Tara Community Centre, 20 Newbury Street, Ōtara
  • Papatoetoe Library, 30 Wallace Road, Papatoetoe
  • Manukau Library, 3 Osterley Way, Manukau City Centre
  • Tupu Youth Library, 102 Dawson Road, Ōtara
  • Electoral Office, Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland Central.

Eligible voters who haven’t received their voting documents by Tuesday 13 June 2023, should apply for a special vote at:

  • Manukau Service Centre, Kotuku House 4 Osterley Way, Manukau City Centre
  • Ōtara Library, 46 Fair Mall, Ōtara, Manukau
  • Electoral Office, Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland Central

The successful candidate will be declared elected as soon as practicable after 12pm on 28 June 2023 and inaugurated at the 25 July board meeting.
