A district-wide programme to repair road slips and reinstate damaged sections of road is now underway across parts of the Waikato district.
The programme began yesterday and will continue through to June 2027.
The works follow Cyclone Gabrielle and recent severe weather events which caused slips and damage across the district’s road network.
Repairs are planned across the North Waikato, western and central rural areas, and south-west rural areas, including roads in and around Port Waikato, Onewhero, Waikaretu, Waingaro, Waitetuna, Kawhia, and Whaanga.
Eight contractors will be working across different locations to help deliver the programme as efficiently as possible.
Traffic impacts will vary by site and may include stop/go traffic management, single lane access past worksites, and partial road closures where needed.
“At this stage, no detours are expected. Residents will continue to have access to their properties, and school buses, rubbish collection, and emergency services are expected to continue as normal,” Waikato District Council said in a statement.
The programme is being supported with funding from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, alongside Council funding.
