Waimakariri District Council Mayor, Dan Gordon, has confirmed the Council will make a submission opposing a Private Plan Change by Rolleston Industrial Developments Limited to urbanise part of Ohoka.
Private Plan Change 31 proposes to rezone land in Ohoka from rural to residential, with plans to establish a development of up to 700 new households, with space for a possible school, retirement village and commercial area.
The private plan change application was publicly notified on 6 July 2022 with all households and businesses in the District receiving a letter outlining the proposal and seeking submissions.
This process is administered by the Waimakariri District Council. However, as the Council has decided to make a submission, it will be handled by independent commissioners.
“The Council has engaged an independent lawyer and specialists to assist in the preparation of its submission,” it said in a statement.
The draft submission will be considered and ratified at the Council meeting of 2 August and will be publicly available on the Council website closer to this date.
Independent commissioners will review all submissions and their decision will be guided by the Resource Management Act. Submissions close on 5 August 2022.
