Call for Waste Advisory Board nominations

The Minister for the Environment is seeking nominations for Waste Advisory Board members.

The Waste Advisory Board provides independent advice to the Minister for the Environment on matters relating to the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and waste minimisation.

You may nominate yourself or someone else.

To make a nomination send a cover letter and curriculum vitae (CV) of the person you are nominating to the Ministry for the Environment.

CVs should include all information outlined in the Cabinet Appointments and Honours Committee CV form (CAB 50) [Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet website]

If you nominate someone other than yourself, you will need to give the reason you are nominating them in an additional document. You will also need to inform that person.

The Ministry provides the Minister for the Environment with all nominations, a short-list and recommendations. Interviews may take place beforehand.

When considering the recommendations, the Minister for the Environment must consider the need for the board to have collective knowledge, skills and experience relating to:

  • the Act
  • matters likely to come before the board
  • community projects for waste minimisation
  • industry, including the commercial waste industry
  • tikanga Māori.

After consulting the Minister of Māori Development, the Minister for the Environment makes his recommendation to the Appointments and Honours Committee of Cabinet.

Cabinet makes the final appointment(s) decision.

Email your nomination to nominations@mfe.govt.nz

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 3 March 2023.
