Dunedin City Council will farewell Chief Executive, Sandy Graham, later this year, following confirmation that she has not applied to continue in the organisation’s top job.
In a statement, Mayor Sophie Barker said the confirmation means Ms Graham will leave the Council when her current contract expires in October.
“Sandy is a highly skilled, hardworking and effective Chief Executive with deep knowledge across many areas of the DCC operation, and she has led from the front in what is a very complex, demanding and public role,” said Mayor Barker.
“She has provided amazing support to me, as a new Mayor, and our team of Councillors as we work through the complexities of local government and the huge deluge of government reforms coming our way.
“We have also faced the shock of losing former Mayor and Councillor Jules Radich, and through it all Sandy’s strength, help and guidance has been essential.”
Ms Graham spoke fondly of her time with the organisation.
“I have loved working for the DCC and with my amazing colleagues over many years. Our staff turn up ready to work hard and make a difference for our communities every single day, and I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,” she said.
Ms Graham said her focus now is on supporting Council staff and ensuring the organisation is well placed for imminent reforms and the transition to a new Chief Executive.
“Sandy’s immense contribution has made a real difference for Dunedin in challenging times. She’s continued to deliver for our city, and I want to thank her for extraordinary efforts,” said the Mayor.
