Central Otago District Council (CODC) is relaunching its Central Mahi jobs campaign in a bid to help Central Otago employers attract and secure staff for the busy summer months.
The campaign involves promotion of roles to job seekers in the lower South Island via employer-created videos, and support to help place potential employees into roles.
It aims to fill seasonal roles, especially during those peak times, to attract individuals to undertake specific projects, or provide an opportunity for someone to experience your workplace and consider a permanent role in the industry.
Central Otago Mayor, Tim Cadogan said staff shortages affected the whole community and there were ways everyone could help find a solution.
“If you can’t take on work yourself, can you spread the word to others who are looking for work, or maybe you have a spare room to take in a friend or family member from outside the district?”
Central Mahi is free for employers to take part in.
“We are hoping for a high level of engagement again this year,” said CODC Economic Development Manager, Nick Lanham.
“Last year’s campaign had over 5000 people engage with it online, in addition to those in person on campuses and job expos in the lower South Island.
“The campaign focusses on seasonal and short-term roles, however I encourage employers looking for full-time staff to consider how they could use the campaign as a way of showcasing their business and providing someone with the opportunity to experience their workplace that may lead into permanent work in the future,” he said.
The first step of the campaign is to get employers signed up and create videos to promote the website to job seekers from early October.
