Seven people have put their names forward for the vacant Community Board position in the Innes ward of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Ward, Christchurch City Council has announced.
The position became available earlier this year following the resignation of Shreejana Chhetri, who was the successful candidate in the October 2022 local elections.
Christchurch City Council Electoral Officer, Jo Daly, named the seven candidates:
- Mike DAVIDSON (For a Safer, Greener Innes)
- Moazzem HOSSAIN
- Ali JONES (Independent)
- Harrison MCEVOY (Independent)
- Garry NEALE (Independent)
- Mahlon SAUMALU (Independent)
- Mark WILSON (Independent Voice for Innes)
“It’s great to see people come forward to represent the Innes community, and that’s a sign of the sense of community in the area. It’s good news for the people living in the Innes ward, and the Community Board,” Ms Daly said.
The by-election will be conducted by postal vote, using the first past the post system.
Voting papers will be posted to Innes ward residents on the electoral roll from Thursday 26 January.
Voting closes at noon on Friday 17 February. The preliminary result of the by-election should be known later that day.
