Staff satisfaction on the up at Christchurch council

The results of this year’s Christchurch City Council Working@Council survey have revealed a steady improvement in staff satisfaction across the organisation.

The Council has reported that sentiment has increased by between 2% and 11% for every survey question compared to the previous year.

Highlights from this year’s survey were:

  • The overall score increased by 6% to 67% and exceeded the Local Government benchmark (64%) for the first time;
  • Scores across every survey question improved, with increases ranging from 2% to 11%;
  • The Council has a positive impact on the community has increased 6% to 76%;
  • The Council is a great place to work has increased by 8% from 2024, and 12% from 2023 to 74%;
  • 74% of staff participated in the survey (a 2 % increase), and 6% over the Local Government participation benchmark.

Overall staff satisfaction exceeded the Local Government benchmark for the first time since the Council started conducting the annual survey in 2022.

The Working@Council survey explores key areas such as leadership, organisational culture, and performance, providing an insight into how staff feel about their workplace and identifying areas for improvement. This year’s results reflect a growing optimism among staff.

“Our progress over the past two years is a testament to the dedication and unwavering commitment of our teams to serve our community,” said Council Chief Executive, Mary Richardson.

“This year, we’ve seen improvements across every survey question.”

She said the survey results underscore the collective effort of Council staff to continuously improve and support one another, and importance of an environment where people feel valued and motivated to achieve their best.

“Staff are proud to work at the Council and are here because they want to serve our communities and make a difference.”
